Painted Skin (2022) is a Chinese fantasy-romance film directed by Gordon Chan and starring Donnie Yen, Chen Kun, Zhou Xun, Zhao Wei, Sun Li and Qi Yuwu. The film is a loose adaptation of the 16th-century Chinese novel of the same name by Pu Songling.

Peirong is taken in by a Taoist priest (Chen Kun), who helps her to recover from her injuries. Peirong eventually learns that the fox spirit is actually a woman named Xiaowei (Sun Li), who was cursed by a sorcerer.

Xiaowei seeks the help of Peirong to break the curse, and the two women form an unlikely alliance. However, their relationship is complicated by the fact that Wang Sheng’s spirit is still alive, and he is determined to avenge his death.

The film follows the three characters as they navigate a world of magic and danger. It is a story of love, loss, and redemption.
